A Lull in the Adventures
By: Tessie
After an exciting week last week, this one felt kind of boring. Dad went on a big trip to Rocky Mountain National Park on Monday to take photos, but dogs aren’t allowed on the trails there, so we couldn’t go. Instead, Mom took us for a hike/jog (what she likes to call a “hog”) on a trail not far from our house.
On Tuesday, we took a short walk around the neighborhood during the day, but Mom and Dad had plans to go to a concert that evening. Once again, we had to stay home, which I guess was okay because I don’t like live music anyway.
When they started getting dressed for an outdoor activity on Wednesday morning, I thought we would get to go, but they loaded their mountain bikes onto the car and left us at home again. Sure, we went for a neighborhood walk later, but we would have preferred to go hiking at Staunton State Park if they had brought us instead of the bikes. The weather was nice, so we did get to relax on the deck that afternoon.
Yesterday, Dad got up before the sun again and went to take photos at the lake. He found some of the local elk herd on a nearby trail and spent time photographing them. I knew Mom was going to leave us behind when she got ready for paddleboarding because in the summer, she paddles without us every Thursday and Sunday morning. She teaches SUP yoga classes and says it’s impossible to have Mala and me on the paddleboard while teaching yoga. All of this meant that our only outing was another neighborhood walk.
Today is Friday, which always makes everyone in the family happy. So far, we haven’t done anything fun, but our parents keep assuring us that fun is on its way. We leave on Sunday to go camping in Wyoming. Mom and Dad bought a new tent that is bigger than our existing one. When they picked it up from the store, they brought it home and set it up downstairs. I got inside of it with our cat, Mateo. The tent is huge! Dad can even stand up in it, and he’s tall.
Dad just told Mala and me that we’re going on a hike this morning. Mom can’t join us because she’s going to yoga, so she will post this for me before she leaves. I’ve got to go… we're finally heading out on an adventure! Next week, we’ll tell you all about our camping trip.
