Enjoy the Little Things
By: Mala
I had to visit the veterinarian yesterday for an allergy shot because I’ve been itching quite a bit. Luckily, one of our favorite parks is near the vet’s office. Mom brought Tessie along too, so the three of us could go for a hike after my quick stop at the vet.
I was so excited to get into the water when we started walking on the trail. I gulped down some water, cooled off my belly, and then shook the water from my fur. Tessie is usually more cautious, but I went straight for the middle of the creek, knowing I could still touch the bottom. It felt great to be in the water.
We ended up doing the three-mile loop. Tessie decided she wanted to run the second half of the hike, so we all picked up the pace, even though Mom had to juggle both of our leashes and her jacket that she brought just in case it got windy. We moved quickly back to the trailhead.
We all enjoyed our outing, and I forgot all about my shot. Usually, it’s the simple things, like time outdoors surrounded by nature, that make life most enjoyable. Take a break from your work to do something that brings you joy. Don’t forget that life is made up of small moments and time spent with loved ones. As Robert Brault says, “Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.”
