October in Colorado
It was 74 degrees in Evergreen, Colorado today, so we got to go for an unexpected afternoon hike in Staunton State Park. It was a blast! Mom finished a poem that she had started last weekend when we were on an equally beautiful outing down the hill at Bear Creek Lake Park. We hope you enjoy it!
It is now mid-October
Dead heads top tall weeds
Green grasses are brushed with crimson
Star bursts of late season lavender
spring from the rocks.
Gnarled roots over boulders
Dry stream crossings
Puppy paws kick up dust.
Grand cottonwoods,
sentinels of the river,
with canyons along their trunks
hold stories of the centuries.
Sun kissed rock faces
in the distance.
Summer extends another day.
