Protect Our Winters

If you’ve been reading our posts for any length of time, you probably already know how much I love snow. If you’re new to Wild Western Wanderers, you can read my Ode to Snow here.
I’m concerned about the lack of snow in Colorado this season. I’ve heard there’s plenty of snow and cold in other parts of the United States, but here in Evergreen, it’s been unseasonably warm, and we’ve had very little snow. The lack of snow now means a summer drought and a higher risk of wildfires. Not to mention, it makes winter less fun for me.
We walked over to my favorite meadow yesterday, and there was hardly any snow left from the inch that fell over the weekend. I still tried rolling around in what little there was, but it was a disappointment. Tessie barely had any snow on her nose after trying to plow through it with her snout.

My parents told me about climate change and explained that human activity is causing global warming and more extreme weather events. There’s an organization called Protect Our Winters (POW) whose stated purpose is to “unite millions of athletes, brands, and outdoor enthusiasts into the bipartisan voting bloc known as the Outdoor State™ to push for clean air, water, and a healthy planet.”
Unfortunately, dogs can’t vote; otherwise, I’d be sure to support candidates as concerned about the climate as I am. If you’re reading this, please do what you can to help ensure a future with snow! I’d greatly appreciate it.
