Shed What No Longer Serves You
Tessie
It’s springtime, which means it’s time for us dogs to shed our winter coats. My parents have been brushing me a lot, but they still find themselves with tons of my fur on their hands whenever they pet me. Mala has been losing large clumps of fur all over the house every day.
Shedding is our way of letting go of what we no longer need to prepare for a new season. Spring is a great time for humans to shed what doesn’t serve them anymore, too. Change is inevitable and necessary for transformation and growth. We see this all around us in nature.
“Plants are a reminder that everything needs to grow and change and develop – even us.” ~ Bat Vardeh
Mom led a retreat last weekend, during which she invited participants to journal about who they are in their lives at this moment and what they are ready to let go of. What no longer serves them in this season of their lives?
Change can be tough, even when it’s positive. People often cling to what is familiar, and stepping away from who they once were to embrace a new version of themselves can be messy, especially if those around them expect them to remain the same. Change will occur whether you want it or not, and whether you’re ready or not, so it’s best to embrace the new while letting go of old habits and labels that no longer fit.
Getting out and doing something fun and exciting that you’ve never done before can be a fantastic way to discover what fits you at this point in your life. I enjoy visiting new places and spending time in nature. Just yesterday, we went for a family jog on a trail that none of us had explored before. We found that even more trails branched off and wound up into the trees. There were plenty of birds around, and we all had such a wonderful time.
What’s one thing you’re ready to release and one thing you want to welcome more of into your life?
